Un interessante tool per l’analisi dettagliata delle directory di Windows è WinDirStat. Utilissimo quando vogliamo ottenere una rapida panoramica della cartelle che occupano più spazio, sia del disco C:\ che di tutte le unità collegate al PC analizzato. Avviando il programma viene effettuata una scansione completa il cui risultato sarà un elenco di tutte le directory sotto forma di albero, molto simile a Esplora Risorse di Windows. Le cartelle sono ordinate in base a percentuale, dimensioni, voci, numero di file e sotto directory. Il TreeMap (una sorta di mega puzzle colorato) mostra inoltre l’intero contenuto dell’unità analizzata, potendo selezionare voce per voce semplicemente cliccando sul punto prescelto. Infine la lista delle estensione che serve come legenda e mostra le statistiche sui tipi di file rilevati.

Una suite di livello superiore, comprensiva di molte funzionalità, che rendono SlimCleaner un valido antagonista al più famoso Ccleaner; ma anche un'alternativa di tutto rispetto ai più blasonati programmi a pagamento. Si inizia dalla tipica pulizia dei file inutili e obsoleti, per proseguire con una ottimizzazione del sistema attraverso una accurata valutazione (comunity rating - tramite i feedback degli utenti) dei programmi e servizi in esecuzione automatica, un tool per la rimozione degli applicativi installati, il controllo di tutte le estensioni o plugin presenti sui browser, per finire con un pacchetto di utility per la gestione del disco (Disk Tools) e del sistema operativo (Windows Tools).
